Detailed description of The Lazy Swan, Katsbaan Golf Club

The Lazy Swan Golf & Country Club Village previously named Katsbaan Golf Club is a Public, 9 hole golf course located in Saugerties, New York.

The Lazy Swan first opened for play in 1968. The course was designed by Hal Purdy. The course has been redesigned by Barry Jordan.

The Lazy Swan Golf Course is an excellent design that includes a combination of wide-open driving holes and several finesse holes. Water hazards (ponds and creeks) come into play on five holes. The course is easily walkable, players will encounter several cascading and reflection ponds, rock outcroppings, dramatic elevation changes, an alpine garden, and beautiful views to the Catskill Mountains, all within a beautiful landscape.

Par for the course is 35. From the back tees the course plays to 3,140 yards. From the foward tees the course plays to 2,431 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 530 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 6, a par-3 that plays to 173 yards from the back tees.

The Katsbaan Golf Club was renamed The Lazy Swan about a year or two ago. There has been many renovations made to the course, new club house, restaurant, banquest hall all very exclusive etc, its like a smalll village. Very nice.

The restaruant is somewhat expensive, we like to golf as a family and then have a nice meal after but this was out of the question with 4 of us starting at $45 per head.

The condition of the course we terrible, we realized it had rained for several days prior, but seriously they couldn't bag the grass, instead it was lying on the fairway in big wet clumps and the greens were not much better. We had played this course when it first opened and the wetness of the fairways was a big issue then, but we figured its been open awhile and had hoped things had improved but they have not. This course has to the potential to be awsome with the ponds, and mountain scenery, and wide open spaces but needs some general improvement in maintance.

They are starting to add on an additonal 9 holes which will make this one of the few 18 hole courses in the area. But sorry to say there are other courses in the area that we would rather play at and not have to deal with the wet, soggy fairways or the clumps of grass left behind to interfere when trying to putt.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles
